How To Make Tumeric Powder

Equipment

  • Knife or Vegetable peeler
  • Gloves
  • Baking paper
  • Baking Tray
  • Oven
  • Food Processor or High-speed Blender
  • Sieve
  • Airtight Container

Ingredient

  • 400 gram Unpeeled turmeric roots

Procedure

  1. Clean and peel the turmeric roots with a knife or peeler
  2. Cut the peeled turmeric roots into thin equal slices. Note: The thinner the slices, the quicker the drying process.
  3. Arrange the slices on a baking tray lined with baking paper. The turmeric slices shouldn’t overlap.
  4. Bake in the oven at 212-degree Fahrenheit for about 2 hours or more. Check on the dryness at intervals, because the rate at which it dries depends on the thickness, water content, and your oven.
  5. The turmeric is ready when it is crunchy and dry. Allow to cool for some minutes.
  6. Add the cooled turmeric slices to a blender or food processor and blend until smooth.
  7. Sift the powder through a fine sieve to separate the bigger chunks which need to be ground again.
  8. Ground the bigger chunks until smooth, then sift the powder.
  9. Store in an airtight container in a dry place.

Note:

I recommend wearing gloves when cleaning the turmeric root as the turmeric would stain your hands.
