How to make Healthy Zobo Drink (Sorrel Drink) Recipe

Zobo drink is gotten from roselles or sorrel leaves. It has a natural sweet-sour taste. It is otherwise referred to as hibiscus tea, karkade, or even sour tea. Sorrel leaves have numerous uses across the planet, which range from juice, herbs, food e.t.c.

They have a unique taste you would love. Aside from this unique taste, It is loaded with tons of health benefits.

The health benefits of zobo leaves or drink include; Regulation of blood pressure, Weight loss, Regulation of blood glucose, Improves fertility, Strengthens the body, Stabilizes menstruation, and lot more.

We all know there’s nothing that has remarkable benefits and does not have negative effects. Some negative effect of zobo includes

1. Miscarriage; it’s advisable that pregnant women within their first trimester should stay away from this drink because it can reduce estrogen levels in the body, thereby prompting menstruation which can result in miscarriage.

2. People that suffer low blood pressure should not take this juice because it lowers blood pressure.

Health Benefits of Zobo Drink

  • Help to Fight Anemia; Zobo drink contains enough iron to improve red blood cells production. People suffering from anemia can consume this drink to help them enhance the production of hemoglobin. It also helps to prevent anemic symptoms like as weakness, tiredness e.t.c.
  • It helps With Weight Loss; Zobo juice or hibiscus tea helps with weight loss and protect the body against obesity. It is high in fibre, which aids digestion. It helps to prevent too much absorption of carbohydrate and sugar.

How To Make Zobo Drink.

Ingredient 

  • 2 cups dry zobo leaves
  • 1 clove garlic (optional)
  • 1 ginger
  • 1 ripe pineapple
  • 1 tablespoon clove (konafuru)
  • sugar to taste
  • 3-4 liters of water.
  • Lemon, cucumber, or pineapple.

Procedure

  1. Wash zobo leaves thoroughly in cold water to get rid of sand and particles.
  2. Wash, peel and cut the pineapple into thin slices.
  3. Wash, peel and grate or grind the ginger and garlic.
  4. In a deep pot, pour 3 liters of water, add washed zobo leaves, pineapple, and washed clove, bring to a boil.
  5. Add the grated garlic and ginger to the pot and more water if necessary. Keep boiling for about 25 to 30 minutes to soften the zobo leaves.
  6. Turn off the heat and set aside to cool, when cool pass the juice through a sieve or chiffon cloth.
  7. Add in sugar or honey and stir (Note; the zobo drink should be hot or warm)
  8. Pour in a bottle or jar and refrigerate.
  9. Serve cold with any snacks of your choice e.g chin chin, puff puff e.t.c. You may garnish with cucumber, lemon, or any fruit of your choice.

Ingredients
